The Niger state government has raised alarm over the intention of ISWAP to establish a Caliphate in Borgu local government area of Niger state.
The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane who stated this while briefing newsmen in Minna said the group was responsible for the recent abduction of the Dodo of Wawa.
He disclosed that the area where the ISWAP group is trying to establish its Caliphate is around the Kainji National Park which is located in Borgu local government area.
This alarm is coming after the Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello raised alarm over the presence of Boko Haram in some parts of the state and the Chairman of Shiroro local government area, Honorable Suleiman Chukumba cried out that 500 communities in Shiroro have been overtaken by Boko Haram and bandits.
Matane stated that the government became aware of the activities of the group through the residents they tell that they are not bandits but are sent by God to the area.
He lamented that the group have started indoctrinating the people with their beliefs.
“They claimed that they are not bandits, but poised to set up a Caliphate at the Kainji National Park. They claimed they are not bandits but that they are God sent and they are operating from the border of Niger, Benin Republic and Nigeria.
“Though the Benin Republic has closed its borders, the ISWAP is operating around the periphery trying to indoctrinate communities there to accept their teaching and forget about what government is doing,” Matane stated.
