An Expert has called on the media and other relevant stakeholders to take covid-19 vaccination more seriously than the unnecessary information seen in media spaces about the novel coronavirus.
The call was made during an online webinar organised by one of Nigeria’s fastest growing non-governmental organisation known as Gabriel Ajama Foundation.
In his remarks during the meeting Public Health Specialist Olabode Aderemi Temitayo urged the media in Nigeria to pay more attention on Covid-19 vaccination and not be distracted by the deadliness of the disease being published across media space.
He charged the Media to utilize its power to publise the vaccination exercise in the country especially response from people living in rural areas.
Aderemi further noted that specific procedures must be adhered to by NGOs, CSOs and media team to reach out to rural communities where the least of power supply cannot be felt.
According to him right and positive approach is needed to tackle the large population of rural settlers who have developed unnecessary fears for the vaccine from all forms of news making rounds on social media.
The health specialist stressed that there is a battle between the information from social media and organized media, adding that the organized media need to do more to erase unbalanced facts.
He lauded the effort of Gabriel Ajama Foundation towards concerns on rural communities, throwing weight behind the NGOs project which targets active sensitization and awareness programs in rural communities to create positive turn up towards vaccination.
The webinar saw wide participation of journalists from various media organisations in the country.
